With the growth of the AI industry and the expansion of cloud services, data centers are emerging as critical digital infrastructure within urban environments. The K-Square Data Center, located in Gasan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, was developed in response to this trend and completed in 2025 as an urban IDC facility. The project comprises three basement levels and eleven above-ground floors, with a total floor area of approximately 40,000 square meters, designed as a large-scale digital infrastructure facility.

The K-Square Data Center is an urban data center developed on a constrained site bordered by existing buildings on two sides and adjacent to a railway line on another. Despite these challenging site conditions, the design enables stable data center operations and efficient spatial utilization, incorporating a dedicated layout optimized for the concentrated accommodation of server equipment and power infrastructure.
The facility is equipped to support a total IT load capacity of 26 MW, enabling it to function as a key piece of digital service infrastructure.

The architectural design emphasizes the functionality and reliability essential to a data center. A simple massing strategy combined with a stone-finished podium creates a stable and grounded architectural expression, while the functional language characteristic of industrial facilities is articulated in a restrained form within the urban context. In addition, high-efficiency cooling systems and energy management strategies were incorporated to support the development of sustainable digital infrastructure.

The K-Square Data Center has also been recognized for its sustainability, achieving the highest 5-Star rating in GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark), a leading global ESG assessment for real estate assets.

Architect's Note

“Considering the programmatic nature of an industrial facility within an urban context, the design was developed around a stable massing and a restrained façade. While accommodating the functional requirements of a data center, the intent was to create a calm and composed architectural presence that does not overly assert itself within the urban fabric.”
